Do Phthalates in Vinyls and Plastics Affect Endocrine Systems in Children?

I have read several articles recently about phthalates and bisphenol-A, chemicals which are alleged to create endocrine changes in people and animals. For the laymen and laywomen out there, that means these chemicals can change the reproductive systems in humans and animals, causing changed and damages that are permanent. Recent articles talk about disturbing changes in reproductive systems and genitals in boys and girls.

When doing a little research, I found two opposing views in websites which are right next to each other in the search engines. The first one is Our Stolen Future, which is a website alleging the dangers that I described above. The second one is Phthalates Information Center, which is a website touting the pluses of vinyl products and countering the arguments presented above.

It would seem that the second site is sponsored by The American Chemistry Council, a consortium of chemical manufacturers, who stand to lose, if all proves negative with these additives. The first site is for a book by the same name, which presents the problems that seem to be occurring since phthalates have become regular additives in the products we use every day.

I encourage my readers to take a look at both sets of information, then let me know what you think. What can we do as parents to be sure our children remain or become safer when manufacturing has changed over the past 50 years and lots of new chemicals have become mainstreamed? Let me know!
