When It's Time to Fall Back - Check Your Alarm Batteries

Next Saturday we finally get to "Fall Back" and have that extra blissful hour of sleep as we reset the clocks back one hour. The experts always say to take this twice per year clock change as an opportunity to do some safety updates.

1) Check the batteries in your smoke or other alarms. Face it you don't do this if you don't have a reason to and you don't want that reason to be a fire! Our brother-in-law had this really happen earlier this year and he almost had the house burn. He had taken the batteries out when it was beeping too much in the kitchen. The wiring in the attic caught fire one night and luckily he was awake, otherwise the home, their dogs and he might be up in smoke too. Lesson learned the hard way!

2) Update your alarms - there are newer and better models out than the 15 year old ones that might be on your ceiling. Take a look and see what you've got.

3) Consider adding a carbon monoxide alarm. Cars in the garage, fireplaces, and gas appliances are just some of the ways this often odorless gas can seep into your home and silently kill you. Don't mess around - get this one done.

Very good tips! Thank you! I didn't think of a carbon monoxide alarm. Important, especially if one lives over the garage.
