Tim just bought 8-year-old Butterfly her own cell phone. At first, I was skeptical of the need for this. It is an inexpensive prepaid phone. But she is having more after school activities and extracurricular events. I think he is worried about unforeseen and hopefully rare events like school emergencies and even invasions.
And who can help worrying about stuff like this when you hear on CNN that horrifying cell phone call from the elementary school girl stuck on the school bus that fell into the Mississippi River in the Minnesota bridge collapse. At least she has a way to contact her parents. I guess we all think about this stuff.
I don't think it worries Butterfly in this same way...she's just happy to be the first kid she knows with a cell phone. And please, God, don't let THIS scenario, ever be the outcome of getting a phone for any of us!

No camera on that phone.
I guess I didn't think of that for our little Butterfly's phone, but other parents might buy their kids' ones with phone cameras - so watch out!
